No quiero olvidar nada."

DOS POEMAS DE "ESCRITO" DE ANDRÉS MORALES TRADUCIDOS AL INGLÉS POR EL POETA CHILENO VÍCTOR LOBOS

ESCRITO EN ACADIO

Written in Akkadian

Es sólo la grafía,
el recto, agudo, zurdo y diestro peso
del pincel o de la pluma o de la mano.

It is just the written symbol,
The straight, sharp, left-handed and right-handed weight
Of the paint brush, the pen or the hand.

It is the original stain and the wish
For a great word that says,
That covers everything, that explains
Or never explains anything, that intones it
And soft consonants and nimble vowels
Shall pronounce its clear accent.

It’s the horizontal line, the single stroke
Left in Babel by the scribe.
The alchemy of the secret, of the poem
That opens its doors to the injured at last,
To the child who in silence understands
The curved gesture of the master,
The air that was and stays.

JEROGLÍFICO IMPOSIBLE

Impossible Hieroglyph

Hay tanto que decir y poco tiempo.

There is so much to say and so little time.

(El escriba derramando en su tablilla
una sola lágrima de sangre).

(The scribe shedding on his tablet
A single tear of blood).

There are so many hours then and such a silence
That the fruits already ripen in the orchard.

(Time captures the rhythm of the waves
Which are those never written words).
